Snowfall. Silent Action.

Snowfall. Silent Action.

It must have been about 30 years ago that I wrote the following haiku-like thought in my journal as I watched the snow come down:

“Snowfall. Silent action.”

Unless the snow is icy and verging on sleet, it is quite silent as it falls, thus my observation. Over this weekend, all of us in this Puget Sound region have had the opportunity to contemplate the silence of snow fall. And from the news going ’round, we’ll have that opportunity for the next couple of days as they forecast up to 15 inches of snow!

My first image here was as the snow was silently falling, obscuring any view of Puget Sound, Vashon Islands and certainly the Olympic Mountains. As the snow ceased, the sky cleared and became more dramatic above the snowy landscape.

!@*#!! It’s Snowing!

It’s March. It’s 3:00 in the afternoon and it’s snowing. Crap. I’m so ready for the Springtime that Seattle is having right now! Enough of this COLD!

My Seattle neighbors called the other day to tell me how much they’re enjoying looking out to the flowers blooming in my yard. Flowers? What flowers? It’s still winter here (except that the farmers and gardeners along the canal have been out preparing the soil for planting the last few, sunny days when I’ve been out for a ride.)

Basta!

I think I’ll got out for a walk…

It’s Snowing in Milano!

It’s Snowing in Milano!

The fridgy day and the taunting sky followed through on their promise and have coated us all with 2 inches of snow. And it’s still coming down. What will I wake up to? If there’s a thick, white blanket of snow I’ll have to hop on the subway and go down to the Duomo to take pictures there and around town.

As the snow began to fall, before it stuck to the pavement, it clung to the winter coats going in and out of the retail shops surrounding the Duomo. Umbrellas kept snowflakes out of the eyes. Wednesday’s salt piles remained, and stained my black boots.

This snow plow was at-the-ready earlier in the evening at the Piazza del Duomo.

A classic icon – the Vespa – lightly covered with the first snow and awaiting more.

Here’s the view outside my bedroom window, to the courtyard Christmas tree across the street. Snow has accumulated to about 2 inches since this shot was taken a couple of hours ago.
